Now it’s difficult to say how and when the idea of the GROND series was born. The fact is that I didn’t create this idea in one moment. The main idea was created and perfected over the course of three years, it expanded and evolved, and the final plot is very little like the original one. Even now, when I finish the fifth novel and know exactly how and when the whole series in the eighth novel will end, I continue to improve my work.
But I can say for sure what triggered the creation of the GROND series. In the mid-nineties in Russia they showed a sci-fi series “Earth Star Voyager”. And this show was one of the brightest impressions of my childhood – I must say that I liked this little TV series much more than the original Star Wars trilogy. Recently, I revisited the series for the first time in twenty years, and I can say with certainty – “Earth Star Voyager” is still one of the best science fiction films about teenagers and for teenagers.
So, I watched “Earth Star Voyager” and became a real sci-fi geek. I read and watched everything I could reach, but I couldn’t find a second such beautiful moment, childhood was over. And then I decided – if there is no other such story for me, then I must do it myself. No sooner said than done.
GROND is a story for boys and girls of our time. I want to entertain them, tell them an interesting story that no one else will tell. But I also want them to think about their future, and understand that this future, good or bad, depends primarily on themselves.
In the GROND series boys and girls will see a future without superheroes in which you can rely only on yourself and your friends. The future, in which you need to study hard, and then work hard, if you want to live, thriving, and don’t want to die of hunger in the gutter. A future that doesn’t forgive stupidity, weakness, laziness and cowardice, and a future in which nothing is as valuable as a sober mind, initiative, courage and perseverance. The future, which must be avoided at all costs, and the future, which is worth fighting for. The future of great achievements and adventures. Their future.
All the best,

In the year 2086, Earth is exhausted. The seas have been emptied, the bedrock and soil stripped of their resources, and the superheated atmosphere churns with terrible storms. Those who can afford to do so live in the limbo of virtual reality, and the billions who suffer in poverty have no work, no clean water, and no security from the chaos.
The only hope for those trapped on a dying Earth are the Changed—the seven bioengineered post-humans who work in their separate manufacturing facilities orbiting high above the planet. Raised from birth for their work and fully matured at ten years old, their genius provides the nanomaterials that have begun to cleanse Earth of the pollutants that have wiped out almost the entire ecosphere.
But for Olga Voronov, youngest of the Changed, the isolation and endless toil are not the greatest of her challenges. Down on Earth there are those who resent and fear her talents—and would prefer that humanity not be given the second chance that only she could make possible …
