Ok let me think of a way to make this not sound super boring…lol 😉 I am extremely lucky to be able to write full time now, a luxury that most authors do not get to enjoy. It all started about a year and a half ago in Florida when I was working as an event coordinator for a dental implant company. Random – I know! I wrote after work, on the weekends, and during slow times at work (Shh! Don’t tell anyone!) Then fast forward to six months later and I was on a plane with my German shepherd, Nico, moving to Poland to meet up with my husband who had already moved there a month before. It’s a long story but for family reasons, we needed to be in Poland, which is where my husband was born and his family still lived.
I will start by saying, no I do not speak a word of Polish, and it is definitely one of the hardest languages I’ve ever tried to learn. So needless to say, finding a job wasn’t going to be a possibility, which I was just fine with. Luckily, I had just about finished my first novel, Wilder: The Guardian Series and was going through the editing, beta reading, and cover design phase. Moving to a small town in Poland allowed me the luxury to fully devote all my time to being an indie writer, and I really needed it. There was so much that I had to learn beyond just writing my first book.
Ok so now that you know a bit about my background, I’ll walk you through my typical day. I usually wake up leisurely at around 9am – yes I know, I’m super lucky. I’m also seven months pregnant now so I really need my sleep. I roll out of bed and eat breakfast right away because this baby is hungry! My husband works from home too, so we usually chit chat for a while as we check our iPhones and see what’s going on in the rest of the world. Then I really really try to start writing right away… but I always get distracted somehow. I sit down on the couch in the living room (my designated writing area) and turn on my laptop and go through all the open tabs on my screen. Always starting with the Amazon reports tab, of course. I have to see how many books I sold and pages were read – I get so obsessed! Depending on those numbers, I either start off in a good or bad mood. I then go through my email, Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, my website, and my Amazon ads and affiliate links reports. Geez, managing social media really does take a lot of time!
Then I finally get down to writing. My goal is five pages on Word a day and this lets me set a nice pace. Once I actually sit down to write, I really love it and I get sucked right in. It’s just dealing with all the distractions leading up to it – like my husband, my dog, Words with Friends, etc. I usually finish the first draft of a book in 6-8 weeks, then go through multiple rounds of editing myself before I send it to my editor.
Once I get my 5 pages done, I’m golden! I will admit, I usually do my writing while still in my pajamas. I love that perk about working from home. Once I’m done, I finally get dressed and eat a late lunch/early dinner – that’s how they do it here in Poland and then go do any errands for the day. I also always make sure to leave my evenings free for a few hours of reading the latest YA series I’m obsessed with and my favorite TV shows. And that’s my day! Not super exciting, I know, but you gotta love the freedom of the author lifestyle.

About the Author
G.K. De Rosa has been an avid reader from a very young age. At the precocious age of two, while living in Italy, she had memorized an entire children’s book in Italian and expertly turned the pages at the exact right moments of the story. As she grew up, she always enjoyed literature, no doubt having been instilled with a love of story telling from her early years in Catholic school where she was greatly influenced by exemplary teachers who taught her the value of English and Literature. Though she did not pursue writing in college and instead went for the more traditional route of International Business inspired by her love for travel and all things foreign, after a move to New York City, she found her creative writing side calling once again. She began writing a restaurant review blog, City Lights and Tasty Bites, detailing her other passion – food! The hectic hustle and bustle of the city, combined with long commuting times gave her the opportunity to spend more time reading and rekindled a lost love. After reading countless books in many diverse genres over the two years in New York City, and returning to her home state of Florida, she felt compelled to write something for herself. She had always felt particularly drawn to Young Adult novels and having been an eternal romantic at heart, a fantasy romance was a natural choice. She currently lives in South Florida with her real life Prince Charming and their fur baby, Nico the German shepherd.
